Alexander Woodward is a scenic and costume designer whose work spans theatre, opera, and dance. His designs have been seen on Broadway and at major regional and international stages, with a particular focus on new work and the collaborative development of new plays and performance.

With The Sound Inside at Studio 54, directed by David Cromer and starring Mary-Louise Parker, Woodward became the youngest scenic designer on Broadway in 2019. The production originated at Williamstown Theatre Festival before its Broadway transfer. His work also includes the world premiere of the ballet Their Eyes Were Watching God, as well as productions at the Kennedy Center, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Geffen Playhouse, Alliance Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Studio Theatre, Dorset Theatre Festival, Northern Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Heartbeat Opera, Colt Coeur, Mint Theater Company, and others.

Woodward's work is rooted in collaboration and an interest in how design can transform space, shape storytelling, and create a relationship between performer and audience. Alongside his professional design practice, he is a tenured professor at Dartmouth College and continues to serve on the faculty of the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. He previously led the BFA and MFA Design and Technical Theatre programs at the University of Connecticut and has served as an invited faculty member in Berklee College of Music's graduate Live Music Production and Design program.

His work has been recognized with the OPERA America Robert L.B. Tobin Director-Designer Prize, the Donald M. Oenslager Fellowship, and the Shubert Scholarship, and has been selected for the Olio Collection at New York's Civilian Hotel. MFA from the Yale School of Drama and is a proud member of United Scenic Artists, USA 829, and the Colt Coeur theatre company.
